Laser Surgery

Dr. Kim Taylor performs an ovariohysterectomy (spay) on a 6 month old kitten using the Accuvet laser.  Note the lack of bleeding at the incision site.

Somers Point Veterinary Hospital has been performing laser surgeries since January 2001, the first hospital in the area to do so.

Laser offers the following benefits over conventional surgery:

  • Less bleeding, as blood vessels are simultaneously sealed while being cut.
  • Less pain, as the nerve endings are sealed.
  • Faster healing, as there is less swelling due to the sealing of the lymphatic tissues.

The laser can be used not only for spays, declaws, and neuters, but also tumor removals, the treatment of severe gingivitis, amputations, cystotomies, and much more.  Please call us for more information about laser surgery.
